Over hill and dale: family hikes in Olang and its mountains

A babbling mountain stream, a playground, wild strawberries growing red by the wayside that soon find their way into the mouth. There are sun, woods and meadows, even birds that invite you to sing along. And when the various mountain huts tempt you with golden Kaiserschmarrn pancakes, you’ll want to go hiking too, won’t you?

Hiking for all

And hiking in Olang begins right at the front door! The Steinzger Alm, Hofstatt Alm and the Berger and Walde Alm are all ranked in the top ten (or even top thousand!) for family hikes.

Down in the valley, wide paths suitable for pushchairs lead across meadows and fields, past streams and mossy forests, and through the three villages of Mitter-, Nieder- and Oberolang, all of which have fascinating tales to tell at every turn. Those preferring the lofty heights can take the Olang I and II lifts that whisk them upwards. The lush mountain meadows, clear mountain streams and high peaks are waiting to be explored with all the senses – even barefoot.

Top-rated by our youngest guests

Our very own mountain pasture, the Angerer Alm, is top-rated by our youngest guests and can be reached directly from Oberolang in an hour on foot. Picnic areas and swings along the way smooth the path for children, with brief stops and mountain streams to keep them busy. Just don’t forget to take some spare clothes with you!
